Joe Fields, 89, of Woodbine passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born on May 25, 1932, to the late, Buford and Ethel M. Roberts-Fields in Woodbine. Joe received  his early education at the Kinlaw Rosenwald School in Woodbine. He was a member of Carnegie Methodist Church and aside from working Joe loved gardening and still … working. His work history consisted of 30 years of service at Rhone Poulenc/Bayer Crop science in Woodbine, from which he retired. Aside from that job, he was self employed in the timber industry as a pulpwooder. Joe was the former husband to the late Ethel Lee Glover-Fields and to this union, five children were born.

  He was preceded in death by both parents, Buford and Ethel M. Roberts-Fields; his former wife and mother of his children, Ethel Lee Glover-Fields; a son, Ulysees Fields; his siblings, Corrine Hanford, Mae Pearl Stokes, Lando Fields, Roscoe Fields, Almond Fields, Jerry  Fields, Clara Taylor, Carletha Glover and Isabelle Beckham.

  Those left to cherish his memory: his loving children, Gloria Armstrong, Bronx, New York, Earlene Mitchell, West Palm Beach, Florida, Joe Dan Fields (Leona) and Alonza Fields, both of Woodbine; two sisters, Alice (Carl) Waye and Mamie Lou Hill, both of Woodbine; one aunt, Anna Lois Roberts, Kingsland; his sisters-in-law, Katie Lee Fields, Jacksonville, Florida, Ira Fields, Kingsland and Connie Fields of Brunswick; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

There will not be a wake/visitation. Remains will be viewed one hour prior to services at the cemetery.

  Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at Evergreen Cemetery, Woodbine.
