Jefferson Reed “J.R.” Jones, 86, of St. Marys died Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Community Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Jacksonville, Florida, after an extended illness. 

Mr. Jones was born in Folkston to the late Reed Jones and Viola E. King Jones Bennett and made St. Marys his home for 66 years. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and retired from Gilman Paper Company in the maintenance department. 

Mr. Jones enjoyed camping, so much that he would take his grandchildren every summer on a camping trip to the north Georgia mountains. He loved his grandchildren and the time spent with them, he also enjoyed being on his farm in Folkston and growing his pine trees. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church St. Marys

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Jones.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Joyce Jones of St. Marys; two children, Sonya Mumford (husband Rob) of Elkton, Florida, Shaye Wooten (husband Don of Hewitt), Texas; four grandchildren, Amber Jones (husband Reed), Tiffany Jones (husband Tyler), Jeffrey Wooten, Chelsea Lynn (husband Colton); five great-grandchildren, Hunter Jones, Easton Jones, Gabriel Wooten, Hallie Wooten, Luke Lynn; a sister, Helen Wells; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July, 16, 2020, at First Baptist Church St. Marys. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery in Folkston.
