GILLETTE – Mr. Joseph William Gillette Sr., 81, of Kingsland, Ga., passed away on the evening of Aug. 22, 2022, at UF Health North in Jacksonville, Fla.

Joe was born April 22, 1941, in Kingsland, Ga., to the late Walter and Kathleen Gillette. He was one of five siblings and born in the home the entire Gillette family has known at one time or another as a place of love, discipline and a good hot meal.

Joe grew up in Kingsland and lived there with his family until serving in the Coast Guard and moving to Massachusetts, where he met his lovely wife, Nancy. The two married in 1962 and had two children, Billy and Cindy. Joe and his family moved back home to Kingsland in 1972, where he served in various occupations, such as police officer, building inspector and millwright. Joe retired from Anheuser-Busch in Jacksonville, Fla., in 2003. Joe was especially witty, often direct and an avid fan of NASCAR. He enjoyed traveling with Nancy and watching western movies, preferably those shot before colored television. Joe was dedicated to his family and showed love through loyalty and support, which was evident in his eagerness to help with a problem, his presence in his grandchildren’s milestone moments, his investment in his children’s endeavors and his dedication to his loving wife in both health and the last several years of illness.

Joe is survived by his children, Billy (Jan) Gillette and Cindy Adcock, all of Kingsland, Ga.; brothers, Martin Gillette of Kingsland, Ga., and Dayton (Nancy) Gillette of Dawsonville, Ga.; sisters, Ileen (Dan) Ruffin of Hilliard, Fla., and Glenda (Jimmy) Foddrell of White Oak, Ga.; grandchildren, Kristen (Josh) Thomas, Devin (Olivia Valente) Gillette, Justin (Michele Mix) Adcock and Amber Adcock; great-grandson, Baer Thomas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe Gillette was proceeded in death by his parents and loving wife. Today, he is reunited with his “sweetie.”

A graveside service for Mr. Gillette will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga., with Adam Jones and Dan Ruffin presiding. Devin Gillette, Justin Adcock, Josh Thomas, Marty Gillette, Tony Gillette and Chris Lang will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim, Jake and Joe Gillette.

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, Ga., is entrusted with Mr. Gillette’s arrangements.
