Lamar Hill Douglas passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022. He was 71 years old.

Lamar was born May 7, 1951, in the Hacklebarney community of Pierce County, Ga., to Quinton and Polly Douglas. As a young boy, his family moved to Camden County, Ga., where he resided for most of his life. After high school, Lamar joined the U.S. Army and traveled to different parts of the world, where he met his first wife, Lucia. After his time in the Army, he joined the U.S. Air National Guard, worked for the Gilman Paper Company as an electrician until it closed, and raised two daughters, Leslie and Ashley. He also worked in the maintenance department for the College of Coastal Georgia until his retirement to Wilmington Island with his second wife, Belinda. They then came back to Camden County to be closer to his growing family.

Lamar – or “Slim” to some – was a quiet man, with a few smart-alecky remarks here and there. He liked to tell jokes and always had a little chuckle or smirk to go along with them. He loved spending time with his family. But more often than not, you could find Lamar with his wife, Belinda, fishing, being out in their boat or showing off their little dog, Harley. Lamar was always willing to help a neighbor when he was able and had many friends that he stayed in touch with throughout the years. He was always a bit of a hobby artist, whether it was wood carving or his newly rekindled love for painting pictures.

His presence here on Earth will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his wife, Belinda Douglas of Kingsland, Ga.; daughters, Leslie Carroll (Dan) of Kingsland, Ga., and Ashley Miller (Eric) of White Oak, Ga.; stepsons, Justin Doss (Adrianna) of New York and Patrick Doss (Maggie) of New Jersey; six grandchildren, Daniel and Liam Carroll, Alyce and Adeline Miller, and Billy and Rowan Doss.

He will be reunited in Heaven with his father, Quinton “Slim,” mother, Minnie “Polly” Douglas, and sister, Connie Sue Brooks.

A memorial service for Lamar will be 11:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at Allison Memorial Chapel. Visitation will start at 11 a.m. on the same day.

Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
