STANFIELD – Mary "Virginia" Stanfield, 91, of Woodbine, Ga., passed away May 24, 2022, at her residence.

Virginia was born May 23, 1931, in Stapleton, Ga., to the late James and Pauline Rooks. She graduated from Asbury College, where she received her bachelor's degree in education and then worked for Camden County School System as a teacher, where she taught the majority of children in Camden County until she retired in 1991. She was dedicated to Woodbine United Methodist Church and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and collecting coins. She was a Braves fan, loved to travel to see her family and was known as "Mema" to everyone who knew her. Virginia loved her family and especially her grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by her children, Joseph L. Stanfield Jr. (Velvet) of Glennville, Ga., and James M. Stanfield of Woodbine, Ga.; sister-in-law, Rachel Widener; grandchildren, Jamie Neal (Chad), Stephanie Rush (Stan), Sara Meadows (Wes), Joseph Stanfield III (Katie) and Maylon Stanfield; and great-grandchildren, Carson Neal, Cooper Neal, Cole Neal, Fisher Rush, Finn Rush, Emmaline Rush, Mason Meadows, Emery Stanfield and Molly Stanfield.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Stanfield Sr., and siblings, Voncile Rooks, Etheridge Rooks, Joyce Dixon, Shelby Harden, Willadean Kuykendall, Buddy Rooks, Jimmie Clark, John Owen Rooks and Sonya Usry.

Pallbearers were be Barry Rooks, Tim Rooks, Joseph Stanfield III, Maylon Stanfield, Chad Neal, Stan Rush, Keith Usry and Carson Neal.

Honorary pallbearers were Hospice of the Golden Isles and its caregivers, Gayle Gibbs, Joy Griffin, Monica Raley, Cassidy Taylor and Lisa Walker.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2022, at Woodbine United Methodist Church with Jan Conner officiating. Visitation started at 10 a.m., prior to service time. Burial was at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Glennville, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Hospice of the Golden Isles or Woodbine United Methodist Church.
