Robert Patrick McElroy of Woodbine passed away on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

He was born in Bartow, Florida, on Aug. 26, 1969, to Betty Joyce Conner Welchman of Woodbine and Robert F. McElroy Jr. of Middleburg, Florida.

He lived most of his later years in Woodbine, where he spent 29 years carpet and upholstery cleaning with his mother at BJ’s Carpet Care Plus then recently worked at Travel Centers of America in Brunswick.

Patrick was a confirmed bachelor with his only companion for 17 years, his bulldog Six Pack. He was a very quiet man and the only ones who could get him to talking were his Aunt Nora and Aunt Algeriea, his sister Sonia and cousin Melissa.

He was a very hard worker but he had only one speed — slow. What he liked to do most was listen to the song “Chilling on a Dirt Road” in his pickup truck with Six Pack.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Betty Joyce (BJ) and Jerald Welchman of Woodbine; his father and stepmother; Robert and Deloris McElroy of Middleburg, Florida; his sister, Sonia Marie Brown of Woodbine; his nephew he helped raise, Skyler J. McElroy; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and brothers of the heart, D.J. Harrison, Wayne Jacobs, Hicks and Dicky.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30 at the Double JJ Cemetery at the home of Jerald and BJ Welchman, with pastor Ricky McCarty officiating.

Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Donations can be made directly to the funeral home as Patrick did not have life insurance.
