PEEPLES – Chief Morris E. Peeples, 81, of Kingsland, Ga., passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Chief Peeples was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late Elmo and Hazel Peeples. He married the love of his life, Sharon, on Nov. 9, 1961, in St. Marys, Ga., and they have been happily married for 60 years.

Chief Peeples will always be remembered by his family, as well as all of Camden County, as a fireman legend. He began his career as a volunteer junior fireman at the young age of 15. He later became the first paid fireman and then the fire chief of Kingsland Fire Rescue in 1985. He also worked for his dad, Elmo Peeples, at the Peeples Market, becoming owner in 1980 until closing in May 1985. He dedicated his life to this community until he retired as Kingsland fire chief Aug. 18, 2014, his 73rd birthday. He was a self-taught fireman and passed his knowledge to anyone who came to work with him. He loved every single one of his firemen as his own family. He would’ve given his life for any one of them.

Aside from being a fireman, he loved watching the Camden County Wildcats under those Friday night lights. He was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather. He was the epitome of a hardworking, generous, loyal man.

Chief Peeples is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Peeples, of St. Marys, Ga.; sisters, Cheryle Coopat (Tom) of Naples, Fla., and Jacqueline Meeks (Terry) of Fernandina, Fla.; brother, Larry Peeples of Kingsland, Ga.; sons, Wayne Peeples (Diane) of Kingsland, Ga., Kevin Peeples (Cynthia) of Kingsland, Ga., and Jason Peeples of Woodbine, Ga.; grandchildren, Jarrett Peeples, Kyndle Johnson (William), Tyler Peeples (Ashton), Landen Peeples, Chandler Peeples and Kaley Peeples; great-grandchildren, William Jr., Kaeden, Allison and Madison; dear cousin, Linda Cleghorn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
