SEDWICK – Jean Strickland Sedwick, 82, died Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., after a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 5, 1939, and was the daughter of Otis and Emily Strickland of Woodbine, Ga. Mrs. Jean, as she was affectionately known, was a member of Kingsland First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and sang solos. 

Over the years, she worked at various places including Kay Davis’s Kindergarten in Kingsland, Ga., Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base and Camden County High School as a paraprofessional.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Strickland.

She is survived by two beautiful daughters, Pam Scarbrough (Bill) of Mason, Tenn., and Angela Gore of Charleston, S.C.; two cherished grandchildren, Miranda Gore and Brandon Gore of Charleston; niece, Jennifer Strickland; nephews, Tim Strickland and Rhett Strickland; and sister-in-law, Tonya Strickland.

She was a lifelong lover of music and also enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was particularly proud of her brother, Stanley Strickland, who owned Savannah Candy Kitchen in Savannah and introduced her to one of her cooking idols, Paula Dean. She enjoyed being a Southern lady, enjoying all things Southern. She cherished friends and family and recently hosted a Bible study group in her home.    

A celebration of life was 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Kingsland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Our Journey Inc., 15617 U.S. Highway 17, Townsend, GA 31331
