The St. Marys Police Department is investigating after a verbal argument at a stop sign escalated to a shooting midday Tuesday at Martha Drive and Highway 40, according to a press release. One man was arrested.
Around 12:30 p.m., Tommy Harrison, 38, of Folkston pulled up to the stop sign on Martha Drive at Highway 40. Stewart Unangst, 38, of St. Marys pulled up behind him and approached Harrison’s pick up truck. They started arguing and Harrison stepped out of the truck. At some point, Harrison allegedly shot Unangst in the upper torso and Unangst fell to the pavement.
First responders took Unangst to Southeast Georgia Health System where he was transferred to Shands Jacksonville by helicopter. Harrsion was arrested for aggravated assault.
The investigation is ongoing.
