Brook Blount, 39

Chief Warrant Officer

Employer: U.S. Coast Guard Sea Dragon, Kings Bay, Ga.

Residence: Kingsland

Professional responsibilities: Commanding Officer

Accomplishments/Honors: Navigated the enlisted ranks up to Senior-Chief before earning a commission as Chief Warrant Officer. Received an assignment as Commanding Officer of a Coast Guard Cutter in my hometown in 2021.

Community Involvement: Speech/presentation at Kings Bay Navy League Dinner, Savannah Navy League Dinner. Adopted a highway in Kingsland (a portion of Gross Road), where we conduct quarterly roadside clean-ups. Coordinated Habitat for Humanity support by Coasties in 2021.

Why did you go into your particular field? I wanted to get into law enforcement and had a love for being on the water. The Coast Guard was just moving into our town at the time I had the opportunity to speak with some of the Coasties as I was doing some work on their building. It was a no-brainer for me!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Police officer.

What was your first job? Ace Hardware in Kingsland.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Work hard, play hard, enjoy life.

What’s your favorite thing about your job? There are many things I enjoy in my position but to witness members in my command accomplish their goals and advance in their career is something special to me.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you first started your career? Maximize retirement contributions.

Who do you consider to be your greatest mentor and why? A Master Chief I once worked for. He loved his job and his crew, and advised me on the career path I took. His inspiration led me where I am today.

When you’re not at work, what do you do to relax? Golf cart rides with the kids. I also love running. It’s therapeutic for me.

What is something about you that most people don’t know? I enjoy playing with dolls with my daughter, Eleanor. Maybe even when she’s not around. I don’t know.

How do you hope to grow in your career? I look forward to balancing my experience in new assignments as I work my way to 30 years of service.

If you couldn’t do what you’re doing now, what would you be doing?

That’s a scary thought. I don’t know where’d I be without the Coast Guard. I’d like to think I’d be in law enforcement.
