Why did you go into your particular field? I joined the fire department 15 years ago to give back and serve my community to ensure that the people could rest assure that someone was coming to help them in their time of need. I am a fourth generation public servant.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? As any child dreamed of being the next professional athlete, I had the same aspiration, however, it wasn’t until I was 15 years old and experiencing the loss of my mom to cancer that I felt a burning passion to help others in their time of need.

What was your first job? McDonald’s

What is the best advice you’ve ever received? It’s not about your birth date or death date, it’s about about the hash mark between the two. Also, it’s about people and your relationship with people.

What’s your favorite thing about your job? Impacting a child’s life. You never know what a child is going through outside of school and sports and just spending 15-20 minutes can change their total outlook on life and positively change their mindset.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you first started your career? That math actually plays a critical role in Fire/EMS.

Who do you consider to be your greatest mentor and why? Fire Chief Terry Smith. Terry is all about the people and building those positive relationships with people. Chief Smith and I both started in the fire service for the people and not the money. I always try and reach out to him with whatever road block that I encounter, whether it be personal or professional.

When you’re not at work, what do you do to relax? Play video games, play guitar, fishing, spend time with wife, kids, family and friends.

What is something about you that most people don’t know? That I do a pretty good Mickey Mouse impression and that I love karaoke.

How do you hope to grow in your career? To become a fire investigator, POST certified and to ultimately be a fire marshal in the state of Georgia.

If you couldn’t do what you’re doing now, what would you be doing? Serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. I was actually about to enlist with the Coast Guard until a future co-worker at the time reached out and told me that I had got hired with Camden County Fire Rescue.
