State Sen. Mike Hodges
District 3 State Sen. Mike Hodges, who represents six counties, including Camden County, told the Tribune & Georgian he’s been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
“I’ve had it for a while, and I’m being treated,” Hodges said during a brief phone interview. “I’ve done very well with my chemo.
“It’s time to let people know about it. It’s my intention to continue serving.”
In a news release from Hodges’ office sent later that afternoon, he said, “Although this was news no family wants to experience, we have faced it together with faith, strength and gratitude for the care and encouragement we have received I have visited and consulted with some of the nation’s best cancer care institutions and specialists to confirm my diagnosis and the best course of care. Based on their guidance, I began a treatment regimen that has proven to be of net benefit, so I am moving forward with hope and determination.”
Hodges said he remains committed to District 3.
“While I could never know what the future holds, I will continue working on behalf of our communities and addressing the issues that matter most to the citizens I am honored to represent,” Hodges said. “This diagnosis does not change my dedication as a public servant nor my resolve to stand up for what is right.”
Hodges said he's thankful for the community's prayers.
A lifelong Glynn County resident, Hodges has served as the District 3 state senator since January 2023.
After winning a primary runoff election in 2022, Hodges was unopposed in the general election in 2022 and 2024. He is also unopposed this November in his bid for a third term.
Hodges was the founding director of the First Bank of Brunswick and later served as its CEO.
He’s also had a lengthy record of service for a variety of nonprofits, including serving as a board member for the Southeast Georgia Health System.
