St. Marys was a top-10 vote-getter in a national online contest and is receiving national recognition as one of America’s Best Coastal Small Towns.

The 2020 USA TODAY “10Best Readers’ Choice” is an online travel award contest by the national publication. St. Marys was selected as a nominee by USA TODAY editors and an expert panel. The contest gave the public four weeks to vote for the nominated candidate of their choice with the announcement of winners on July 10.

“Looking at the winning cities they are each uncrowded, casual, and offer affordable fun and livability that you just can’t always find in larger communities,” said Angela Wigger, director for St. Marys Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It was great to see the support of the community and of our visitors as the digital voting was taking place and we are pleased to have made the list.”

The 2020 top ten winners in this category are as follows: (1) Chincoteague, Virginia; (2) Bayfield, Wisconsin; (3) Venice, Florida; (4) Rockport, Texas; (5) Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi; (6) Southport, North Carolina; (7) Georgetown, South Carolina; (8) St. Marys; (9) Gulf Shores, Alabama; and (10) Sandusky, Ohio.
