The National Park Service announced an effort to expand volunteer opportunities for invasive species management at Cumberland Island National Seashore, but no firm expansion has been announced by the national park. The national park already conducts six scheduled hunts per year.

Middle school student named honorary firefighter

Surrounded by firefighters, family and city leaders, 13-year-old Alexander “Alex” Bane Gonzalez was officially sworn in as an honorary firefighter with Kingsland Fire Rescue during a special ceremony at Kingsland Fire Station No. 4 on Gross Road.

Before she defeated the competition, Avery Twelkemeier had to defeat anxiety. She conquered both. On Saturday, Twelkemeier earned a Georgia High School Association Literary Female Vocalist state championship at Buford High School. “That was very, very exciting,” she said.

Camden County Schools receives $500K toward bat expenses

Camden County Schools received a budget boost in the recently passed Georgia state budget. The school district will receive $500,000 to help offset costs incurred at St. Marys Elementary School, where more than 200 bats were discovered earlier this year.
