Campbell
Mary Alice Pearson Campbell, 63, of Kingsland went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2021, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.
Mary Alice Pearson Campbell was born in Kingsland to the late Zack and Annie Mae Pearson on Dec. 6, 1957. She was raised from her teen years by the late Carrie Griffin of Kingsland. She attended Camden County High School.
Mary met James Lee Campbell in 1974. They officially married on July 15, 1989, after 14 years of union bliss.
She was often called Miss Mary and was a faithful worker in the community, the high school and the church throughout her life. She was a stay-at-home mom and mothered many children in the community. Miss Mary was a long active member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she joined as a young child and served until she departed this earth. She served in many leadership positions as Youth Department director, class leader, youth choir director, pastor aid board, beautification committee and driver of the church van. She was a powerful prayer warrior and did not mind praying with her other members and friends over the phone.
She was a remarkable leader in the community where she served many years on several committees. She was one of the original members of the Camden County High School Mother Huddle organization. She volunteered many years for the Kingsland Community Betterment program that sponsored the Catfish Festival, the former Royal Bowl Committee and the former Kingsland Recreation Department. In 1992, she was awarded the “Best Citizens Award” by the City of Kingsland for her service in the community. She loved God, her family, her children in the community, and her pastor very much.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband of 46 years, James Lee Campbell; her children, Lawanda Pearson, Riverdale, Jonathan (Angela) Campbell, Jonesboro, Richard (Danielle) Campbell, James Rafael (Jasmine) Campbell, Joshua (Chonda) Campbell, all of Kingsland, Misty (Jarvis) Campbell, Jonesboro, Evangelyne (Ramon) Kidd, Upper Marboro, Maryland, John Christopher (Tirzah) Boulware, Tennessee, and Melanie Merdonca, Queens, New York; five sisters, Icie Mae (Hamp) Holzendorf, Blossom Grant, Gertrude Pearson, Queenester Johnson and Louise Johnson, all of Kingsland; her special sister and best friend, Grace (Danny) Mobbs; three brothers, Sam Pearson, Will Pearson and Simon Johnson, all of Kingsland; one uncle, Nathaniel (Annie) Scott, St. Petersburg, Florida; two aunts, Aileen Timmons, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Bertha Scott, Silco; a special adopted mother, Delia Mae Joseph, Kingsland; three brothers-in-law, Bishop Jimmy (Louise) Campbell, Paul Rhone and Nelson Rhone all of St. Marys; she especially loved her role as grandma, better known as Nana, of 16 grandchildren, Tessence and Kylee Pearson, Jayla and Kaden Campbell, Shanevia, DaTrayvus and Rayne Campbell, James Rafael, Jiziyah, Rafael James, Jeremiah, Chance and King, Cherish Lee Campbell, Tia Hutchinson and Joshua Nelson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
