Mary Louise Carter, 86, of St. Marys passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Glynn Campus.

Mary Louise Campbell was born on March 29, 1935, to James Joseph and Nancy Jane Campbell Wesley, and was known affectionately by Louise. At an early age, she found a love for Christ and joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devoted church member and served in different aspects of the church throughout her life. She served as the president of the mothers board, president of the choir, member of the usher board and also served on the finance committee. The love she had for her church remained with her until the Lord called her home.

Louise graduated from Ralph Bunche High as salutatorian of her class in 1953. After graduating, she worked for Kraft Bag for many years and retired from James Rivers in 1999. On June 24, 1957, Louise married Marvin Carter Sr. To this union were born six children: Janet Dunham, Brunswick, Pamela Everett, Vancreatia Ward, Marcia Myers, Marvin Carter Jr. and Theresa McGriff, all of St. Marys. The name Nanny was given by her 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grands and six great-great-grands whom she loved dearly.

Preceding her in death are her husband Marvin Carter Sr.; her father, James Joseph; her mother, Nancy Wesley; one brother, Lawrence Campbell; one sister, Lila; two brothers-in-law, Marion Carter and Calvin Carter; two sons-in-law, Marty Dunham Sr. and Marcelle Jerome Myers; and one granddaughter, Mandi.

Left to cherish her memories are her six children; one brother, Charles (Margie) Jenkins, St. Marys; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bobbie Jean (Roosevelt) Burke, St. Marys, Felton (Margaret) Carter, Atlanta, Georgia Carter, White Plains, Maryland, Beatrice Carter, Blackshear, and Betty Jean Waller, Newark, New Jersey; two aunts, Jestine Ford and Louverta Anderson, Kingsland; three adopted children, Janice Harrell-Parker, Pastor Michael Roberson and Michael D.
