Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, Laurie Drummond Jr. answered the Heavenly Father’s call, his spirit took flight to be present with the Lord.

Deacon Laurie Drummond Jr. was born on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 1925, to the late Laurie Drummond Sr. and Edith Smith.

He was a devoted lifelong member of Westlight Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member of the deacon’s ministry until his health failed.

On Oct. 1, 1944, he was joined in holy matrimony to Lonnie Mae Banks, who preceded him in death July 7, 2011. They became loving parents to five children.

He was employed by Gilman Paper Company for 38 years. Laurie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed planting and working in his garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He also did lawn service for many people in Camden County. He loved family and enjoyed getting together for family reunions.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted children, Joanne Mainor, Woodbine, Leotis Drummond (Bessie), Savannah, Gene Drummond (Shirley), Woodbine, Delores Brown (Tom), Orlando, Florida, and Lauredith Patterson (Michael), Kingsland; 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; two godchildren, Felicia Horne and Chala Carey; three sisters, Catherine Lattany and Ella Brown (Thomas), both of Brunswick, and Essie McKenzie, Winter Haven, Florida; a special friend, Marshall Glover; caregiver, Alina Holmes; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and many, many friends that will miss him.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at Woodbine Cemetery. A public walk-through viewing will be held Wednesday at the funeral home. Mask and social distancing are required.
