Kight
Deacon Robert Lee Kight Sr. was a man dedicated to God, family and community. He completed his journey on this earth on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1937, to the late Joe and Ardena Hamilton-Kight in White Oak. He was educated at Ralph J. Bunche High School in Woodbine. He was a lifelong member of Jerusalem No. 1 Baptist Church where he worked faithfully until his final days. Deacon Kight worked most of his adult life at Gilman Paper Company. He also worked in the pulp wood industry and Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base for a number of years. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends and serving the Lord.
Deacon Kight was united in holy matrimony to Sister Rosa Dallas-Kight on April 8, 1961, and together they raised three sons. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage and friendship this year.
He leaves to cherish his legacy and memories his wife, Rosa Bell Dallas-Kight, Woodbine; three sons and a daughter, Robert (Awilda) L. Kight Jr., Lanham, Maryland, Doris (Leon) Walker-Frazier, St. Marys, Dale (Bernice) A. Kight, St. Croy, Virgin Islands, and Gregory (Charmon) J. Kight, Sandy Springs, Maryland; one brother, Edward Kight; three sisters, Verdie Lee Mainor, White Oak, Emma (McArthur) Kight-Hill, Woodbine, and Jannie (Emmanuel) Kight-Walker, White Oak; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Denson, Jacksonville, Florida, Lillie Banks, Atlanta, and Lorretta (Joe) Kight, Woodbine; two brothers-in-law, Charles Dallas, Trenton, New Jersey, and Bennie (Louise) Dallas, Woodbine.
He also leaves to carry on his legacy, grandchildren, Niya Kight, Kai Kight, Sherease Parker, Cory Walker, Nykia Kight, Dale Kight II, Kayla Kight and Miles Kight; great-grandchildren, Aunya Parker, Mekhi Parker, Jayda Walker, Jalyn Walker, Raekwon Myers, Victoria Harris, Khiyee Harris, Cabrea Gillis, Lake Freeman and Zen Freeman. He will also be truly missed by a host of nieces, nephews and friends to include special devoted friend and neighbor, Tavares Garrett.
Deacon Kight was preceded in death by his seven siblings, Douglas Kight, Beaulah Kight-Overstreet, Wille D. Kight, Howard Kight, Joe Kight Sr. Mary Kight-Walker and Albert Kight.
There will be a Viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 4, at M.D. Knight Mortuary in the Kenny Knight Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be at noon Saturday, June 5, at the Woodbine Cemetery.
