Cloris Joseph “C.J.” LeBlanc, 82, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Meadows Health in Vidalia. He was born in Abbeville, Louisiana, on Dec. 18, 1939, to A.B. (Abby) LeBlanc and Willie Mae Meaux LeBlanc.
His career began in the dredging business and at age 21, he became the youngest captain to ever hold that rank. He moved his family to Kingsland in 1971 to supervise the project for the dredging for the Interstate 95 project. They dredged the land from south of Brunswick to the Georgia/Florida line. In 1973 he stepped away from the dredging business for a few years to own/operate the Standard gas station at the Scrubby Bluff exit. In 1977, he returned to the dredging industry for many years, which afforded him opportunities to live and work all over the United States.
After his retirement with the dredging business, he became the municipal utilities director for City of Kingsland.C.J. was proud of his Cajun heritage and was well known throughout Camden County for his love of Cajun cooking, that was taught to him by his Nanny, when he was just a small boy. He was at his happiest, in the kitchen cooking gumbo, with a house full of family and friends. He was also an avid golfer and loved to play in his spare time. He was of the Catholic Faith and is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joycelyn LeBlanc. He was also preceded in death by his children’s mother, Grace Ann Gordon.
He is survived by his wife and loving caregiver, Cheryl Drinnon LeBlanc of Kingsland; children, Debbie (Bryan) Pike of North Carolina, David E. LeBlanc (Malory) of Ft. Valley, and Dianna (Skip) Price of North Carolina; stepchildren, Gregory (Sherry) Hooten, U.S. Army, Wendy Sylvester of Waycross, and Melanie (Sonny)Gonzales of Washington State; sister, Linda (Tim) Hess of New Mexico; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his best friend since childhood, Fred Touchet of Lafayette, Louisiana.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
