CARTER — Rebecca Carter was born April 25, 1928, to Willie Mae and Robert Hamilton in Ludowici in Long County, Ga. She was married to Jonathan Carter, and together, they had nine children. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Ethel Hamilton, Christine Hamilton, Robert Hamilton, Caesar Hamilton, Leroy Hamilton, Isaac Hamilton, Hagar Hamilton, Channie Tyson and Joseph Hamilton.

Rebecca joined Miracle Temple Outreach Ministries and was an active member most of her adult life. She was affectionally called Mother Carter. She was nurtured spiritually by her pastor, Elder Erta Clay Livingston, and later, Pastor Smith. She loved her church leadership and her church body and enjoyed the fellowship of the congregation. Rebecca organized an Old-Fashioned Day each year, which drew crowds from around the area and raised funds for special church projects. She received multiple recognitions for her dedicated, extraordinary service, including the “Trailblazer Award.”

Rebecca was a hard worker all her life. She worked with her hands. Over the course of her lifetime, she worked at Mayfield Plantation, Crews Restaurant, the Box Factory, SeaPak and Cabin Bluff. She retired from Cabin Bluff in 1989.

After retirement, Rebecca enjoyed traveling for vacation and to attend celebrations, near and far, for her children and grandchildren. She traveled all over the United States, to Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands.

Rebecca enjoyed cooking. She was famous for her popular pork-and-bean cake and blueberry cake, and she was known for her tasty Christmas muffins.
