Adam Douglas Washer, beloved son of Ron and Susan Howard and Wayne Douglas Washer, joined his grandparents and other “passed” relatives, accidentally on April 4, 2020, after battling severe pain and the VA for several years.

April 9, 1971, Adam entered this world in Belton, Missouri, near Overland Park, Kansas, where he spent his youth. A strong, intelligent, adventurous and precocious child, Adam continued to be an outstanding, extraordinary person for the rest of his 49 years.

Among his earthly accomplishments: being a loving, caring son — a stalwart friend to all — a dependable uncle, brother, nephew; playing football; graduating near the top of his class at Shawnee Mission West High School; attending Kansas University; bowling “perfect” 300 games; enlisting in the Navy, being chosen leader and graduating first in his naval training class; completing a two-year program in Navy computers and electronics; serving for 15 years in the Navy receiving top security clearances; being responsible for successfully guiding missiles in Iraq; serving several overseas missions; receiving top evaluations including outstanding recognition from one of his superiors as the “best seaman” he had ever supervised.

Adam’s last assignment was writing safety articles for the newspaper and serving as a Tomahawk computer instructor here at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base since he was on land duty due to six operations on his knees, back, shoulder and neck. Unfortunately, he never fully recovered from these injuries which he sustained while serving his country.

He is survived here in St. Marys by his parents mentioned above; identical twin sisters, Laura Brown and Anne Ogden (deceased Jan. 10, 2021); Kaylee Brown (niece), Ryan and Andrew Ogden (nephews), Sarah (Headly) Smith (stepdaughter), and relatives in the Kansas City area: Mark Deaton (uncle), Vicki Fessler and Peggy Farnsworth (aunts) and many, many cousins and other relatives.

Due to COVID restrictions on traveling, memorial services will finally be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Southeast Community Christian Church. Friends are welcome to attend.
