The Camden County boys basketball squad raised its record to 3-1 on the young season with two weekend wins at the Oakleaf Invitational.
The Wildcats put three in double figures in both victories, 63-42 over Bishop Kenny last Friday and 75-62 over Matanzas last Saturday.
Antwann Brown recorded a double-double against Matanzas, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, six offensive. He went 8-of-13 from the floor — 2-of-3 from three-point land — and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
Camden, which led by two at intermission, trailed 50-46 after three periods before erupting in the final eight minutes.
In scoring 22 points, Earl Murray sank 9-of-14 from the field and three threes, while notching a team-high five steals, five rebounds and three assists. The winners also got 15 points on five threes from Dyllan Williams, and eight points plus seven boards (four offensive) from Bryson Foster.
D.J. Thomas contributed a team-best five assists, three boards and two steals, Corey LeClair four points and two thefts, and Caleb Reed three steals.
Rya’sir Jefferson tossed in a game-high 28 for the Pirates, with five three-pointers, three assists and three steals. Desmond Lewis-Goodwin scored 11 with eight rebounds, and Henry Robinson Jr. 10 with 14 boards and five blocked shots.
LeClair netted 16 points, Murray 13 and Brown 10 last Friday as the Wildcats widened a seven-point halftime advantage.
LeClair did most of his damage from long distance, hitting four threes. He also snagged three rebounds. Murray added a three-pointer, four rebounds and three steals, and Brown a Camden-best seven rebounds alongside two assists and two steals.
Williams sank Camden’s other two threes and finished with eight points and two boards, and John Bowick added six points, two rebounds and two assists. Thomas handed out a team-best six assists, with six rebounds and three steals, and Foster scored five with two rebounds.
The ’Cats visit South Effingham on Friday, then host Jenkins on Saturday and Glynn Academy next Tuesday.
