Freddie Ellis, 92, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, with his family by his side.

Freddie Ellis was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Philadelphia to the late Felix and Dora Ellis. He was affectionately known by family and friends as “Chief.” He received his education in a small church in Camden County. He was a World War II Veteran (1946), school bus driver, truck driver and a retiree from Gilman Paper Company.

Besides his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Ellis, and nephews, Gregory and Darryl Ellis.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his children, a loving and devoted daughter, Catha (Darrell) Way of Kingsland, Annette Vogel of St. Paul, Minnesota, Freddie Mae Jones of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Calvin Ellis of Fort Lauderdale; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand; a very special sister-in-law, Mildred Ellis of Woodbine; a special cousin, Hettie Bassett of Allendale, South Carolina; two special friends, Larry Geter and Harry Cummings; a goddaughter, Tina Gilmore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Georgia Avenue Church of God in Kingsland. There will be no wake  Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery.
