Ms. JoAnn Harrell Flanagan, 85, of Woodbine passed away on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Ms. Flanagan was born on April 2, 1934, in Brunswick to the late Riley Lee and Gertrude Liles Harrell.

She grew up in the small town of Waverly and excelled at sports and music. She learned to read music and played the piano as well as playing on her high school basketball team. She went on to attend the University of Georgia earning her bachelor’s degree in business. She married and moved to Atlanta where she raised three boys and worked as an executive secretary for many years.

After the kids all grew up, she felt the draw to move back to Camden County where she was able to advance in the security department at Kings Bay naval base until she retired. She also dedicated a lot of her time into helping with the programs at the old Camden County High School and weekend Woodbine Opry.

JoAnn enjoyed baking cakes, reading, working out and playing her piano in retirement. She found great joy in watching her grandchildren grow into adults and have children of their own.

Ms. Flanagan is survived by her sons, Robert Flanagan of Woodbine, Jeff (Darlene) Flanagan of Elm City, North Carolina, and Mark (Staci) Flanagan of Kingsland; her grandchildren, Jayme, Grady “Geep,” Bobby, Brantley, Ashleigh, Angela, Savannah, Megan and Justin; and her 27 great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Ms. Flanagan also joins her sisters, Jeanne Harrell Clark and Janis “Tarpy” Davis, and her brother, Riley L. Harrell Jr. in Heaven.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Homeward Cemetery in Waverly. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Gillette, Roy Hughes, Lee Harrell, Chris Davis and Sally Britt.

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland is entrusted with Ms. Flanagan’s arrangements.
