HERRING – Ms. Frieda Elizabeth Hansen Herring, 98, of Kingsland, Ga., passed away on the afternoon of Monday, May 23, 2022, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga.

Ms. Herring was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Jacksonville, Fla. She is the daughter of the late Walter Charles and Elizabeth Maria Nix Hansen. Her family shared that their mother was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church in St. Marys, Ga., for 69 years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star of St. Marys. She earned an associate’s degree from the University of Florida in restaurant and food service management. Afterward, she began food management at St. Marys Elementary School and later managed kitchens for both the St. Marys Convalescence Center and the hospital. In her off time, she enjoyed taking tour bus trips with other seniors. She was a sports enthusiast, watching football and the Atlanta Braves on television. She would crotchet and make afghans for her family and friends. She enjoyed being on the water and loved to fish. Her Fridays would start with getting her hair done and then meeting her first cousin, Geraldine, for lunch at Hardee’s. From there, they would inspect the aisles at the Dollar Tree and Goodwill for bargains and deals. Her sweet smile and loving ways will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Ms. Herring is survived by her sons, John Herring and his wife, Cindy Herring, Paul Herring and his wife, Gale Herring, all of Kingsland, Ga., David and his wife, Kathy Chauncy, of North Carolina, and Dan and his wife, Renee’ Herring, of Hilliard, Fla.; grandchildren, Brandy Haass, Bryan Herring. Heather Herring, Stephen Herring, Jason Herring, Eric Herring, Ansley Herring, Craig Lucree and David Chauncy; nephew, Marvin Hansen; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Ms. Herring was also preceded in passing by her husband, Henry Capus Herring, and brothers, Charles and Wilbur Hansen.

A visitation was 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2022, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home. Funeral Services were 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2022, at Christ Episcopal Church in St. Marys, Ga. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ga.

Pall bearers were Eric Herring, Trent Trotter, Bryan Herring, Jason Herring, Ethan Herring, Stephen Herring, David Chauncy and Ryan Gillespie.

The family requests memorial donations in her honor be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, Ga., is entrusted with Ms. Herrings’ arrangements.
