SMITH – Mr. Houston Lee Smith, 56, of Kingsland, Ga., passed away on the afternoon of Monday, June 20, 2022 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 13, 1965, in St. Marys, Ga. to Joann Smith McCollum and the late John Edward Smith Sr.

Houston was a graduate of Camden County High School and later graduated from Valdosta State University (VSU), majoring in political science and minoring in history. While attending VSU, Houston was a member of the U.S. Air Force ROTC program. After graduating from VSU, he enlisted in U.S. Air Force in 1988 and entered service as a second lieutenant. He became a Minuteman missile launch officer. Then, from August 1990 to October 1991, Houston served in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and was honorably discharged in 1991 as a first lieutenant. After his service, he later became an over-the-road truck driver and has been for 18 years. For the last five years, Houston proudly became the owner and operator of his own company, HLS Transportation. Houston was a very kind, generous and loving man. He will always be remembered for his warm smile and huge hugs!

Mr. Smith is survived by his husband, Anthony Johansen of Kingsland, Ga; mother, JoAnn Smith McCollum; brother, John E. Smith Jr.; and sisters, Celia Kay Smith Hibner, Angela Kim Smith Byrd and Lisa Ann Smith.

A visitation was 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. in the Woods-Wainwright Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Brian Parker presiding. Pall bearers were Dale Campbell, Weston Campbell, Caleb Campbell, Justin Smith, Jacob Smith and Sean McGowan. Interment followed at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga.
