Paul Ison Sr., 75, of Kingsland passed away Feb. 12, 2021, at his home in Kingsland.

Paulino Joseph Ison Sr. was born on June 22, 1945, to Isidra and Primitivo Ison in the province of Rizal the municipality of Pateros, Philippines. Paul lived his younger life in the Philippines, earning a bachelor's degree prior to joining the United States Navy in 1964, serving 22 years, with two tours in Vietnam. Paul retired from the Navy at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in 1986, continuing with the civil service as a contract specialist, retiring in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Isidra Ison; his father, Primitivo Ison; his son, Corey Ison; and his grandson, Vondell Ison.

He leaves behind: his wife of 42 years, Betty Ison and his children, Shane Ison, Autumn (Michael) Michaelides, William (Melinda) Ison Sr., and Paulino (Emily) Ison Jr.; brothers, Luis Ison of Manila, (Pateros) Philippines, and Jesus Ison of Manila, (Pateros) Philippines; a sister, Fe Ison of Toronto, Canada; grandchildren, Britania Ison of Bremerton, Washington, Jami Ison of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Cole Ison of Clear Spring, Maryland, Richard Ison of Bremerton, Alyssa Ison of Rowlett, Texas, William Ison Jr. of Kingsland, Kyriakos Michaeldes II of Atlanta, Ciara Ison of Kingsland, Marina Michaelides of Atlanta, Milliana Ison of Stansbury Park, Utah, and Athens Ison of Stansbury Park; great-grandchildren, Finley Ison of Hortense, Micah Ison of Hortense and Shane Ison II of Bremerton.

Paul was a devoted husband, father and grandfather (PaPaw) who loved his children and grandchildren. He loved to read on the back porch, go hunting and fishing, and playing with his grandchildren. He always had to fix things himself and enjoyed cooking, always making sure everyone was fed.

Paul, you will never be forgotten and will always be loved. Your legacy will live on through your daughter, sons and their families. Rest in peace, Pop, our father, husband, PaPaw.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Allison Memorial Chapel. Private services with military honors will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
