Mr. Douglas Wayne Mercer, 81, of Filter Plant Drive, Elberton, husband of Ann Jean Wansley Mercer, passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, at his home.

Mr. Mercer was born April 23, 1940, in Elberton to George Alton Mercer and Ruth Aderhold Mercer. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and a retired waste water treatment superintendent. Mr. Mercer taught numerous water treatment classes throughout the state of Georgia.

He is survived by his wife: Ann Jean Wansley Mercer; daughters and sons-in-law: Catherine and Dave Warren of Richmond Hill, Jacquelyn and Sammy Fogle of Cameron, South Carolina; son: Alton Forest Mercer of Madison; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gerald and Peggy Mercer of Elberton, Jimmy and Mary Mercer of Elberton; and grandchildren, Adrienne Blum, Audra Esquivel, Rachel Fogle, Erica Fogle, Sarah Ellen Mercer and Gaines Mercer.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, George Robert Mercer.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Baston and Rev. Thomas Moon officiating. Interment will be in Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery with Cris Mercer, Clint Dickerson, Gaines Mercer and Craig Mercer serving as pallbearers.

The family was at the home and received friends from 3-4 p.m. just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home.
