Pinnell

Leoniece Davis Pinnell, 83, faithful mother, grandmother, friend and teacher, passed away on Aug. 16, 2021, at her home in Kingsland after a recent illness. 

Leoniece was born in Macon on Nov. 27, 1937, to Clark Augustine and Mildred Chambers Davis.  She graduated from Miller High School in Macon in 1955, received a B.A. in history from Agnes Scott College, and advanced degrees in education from Mercer University and The University of Georgia.

Education was Leoniece’s vocation for over 38 years. She taught in St. Augustine, Florida, and Macon and Camden County Schools in Georgia.  She also served as a supervisor and admissions director for the Program for Exceptional Children in Macon.  Teaching was her first love, and she taught history, social studies, reading, and English. Half of her career was spent teaching and advocating for students with learning disabilities.

After retiring in 2000, Leoniece was active in Habitat for Humanity of Camden County; the food pantry and organizing family night dinners at her church, Kingsland First United Methodist; cooking for others; enjoying the beach; reading; and spending time with her family.

Leoniece is predeceased by her parents, her brother, David Davis Sr., her brother, Jack Davis, and her sister-in-law, Ann Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Fockele (Mark) and her granddaughter, Emma Fockele, all of Gainesville. She is also survived by Peggy Davis-Lidon, a sister-in-law, and nine nieces and nephews and their children.

There will be no memorial service at this time. A graveside family gathering will be held later at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon.
