STOEFFLER – Mrs. Shirley B. Stoeffler, 85, of St. Marys, Ga., passed away at her residence on the evening of Sunday, June 12, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family.

Mrs. Stoeffler was born March 25, 1937, in Flagler Beach, Fla. She was the oldest daughter of Luther and Lily Bell Wilkinson Brooks of Hastings, Fla. Shirley married her life’s love, Carl Stoeffler, on Jan. 7, 1956, and they were given more than 62 years together before Carl passed away in 2018. Shirley was a homemaker and mother to three children.

Shirley was active in the church, leading groups of children to learn and love God over the years. She loved children, especially her children, and was involved in whatever they were involved in. She was a den mother for Boy Scouts in DeWayne’s youth and then a leader for Girl Scouts, when Cindy and Twyla were young. As her children grew and their interests changed, Shirley involved herself with those interests, like raising community interests and money for a youth center that was built by Carl Stoeffler and friends in their free time in the building that is now the St. Marys Submarine Museum downtown. Whatever her family needed, she was: a loving wife, devoted mother, faithful Christian and doting grandmother.

Her life reflected her devotions. She invested time in what mattered most – her church, husband, family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, and son, DeWayne.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Paul) Popa and Twyla Calhoun; grandchildren, Cayla Calhoun, Dustin (Nanette) Popa, Ashley Calhoun, John Michael Calhoun and Olivia Popa; several great-grandchildren, of which three were extra special, Payton McClendon, Eliza Popa and Matthew Stoeffler; and too numerous to name, but still very special nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Calling hours for the Stoeffler family will be 10:30-11:45 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022, at Westside Baptist Church, where Shirley was a member for more than 60 years. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastors David Forro and James Roberson presiding. Interment will be held following the service in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ga. John Michael Calhoun, John Calhoun, Dale Edward Brooks, Evan Cantrell, Tom Popa and Dustin Popa will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Popa, Lamar Warren, Ralph David Stoeffler, Roger Pate and Danny Filmore.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made, in Mrs. Stoeffler’s name, to St. Jude Hospital (stjude.org; 1-800-822-6344; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105).

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, Ga., is entrusted with Ms. Stoeffler’s arrangements.
