Yvonne Fennell Waye, 63, of Kingsland transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick Campus.

Yvonne was born on Aug. 22, 1957, in Ahoskie, North Carolina, to Willie C. Fennell and Ruth Hardy Fennell. Yvonne attended local schools while graduating from Ahoskie High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Elizabeth State University in Elizabeth, North Carolina. In 1991, Yvonne moved to Kingsland. During that time, she was employed by Farmers Home Furniture. While on a work assignment with Famers Home Furniture, she met Mr. Carl L. Waye. After three years of dating, Yvonne and Carl were joined in holy matrimony and blessed with their only child, Carl De’Von Waye.

Yvonne Fennell Waye — to know her blessed your life. She was a smart woman whose willingness to help others is what she took a great deal of pride in. She would always share with you her infectious smile. She loved to serve in her community and was committed to loving God and his principles. She was always a person who made things happen while looking for nothing in return. Yvonne was a dedicated and loyal wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She worked for the City of Kingsland for 24 years and would always be willing to take on a side job in order to help out a family member, friend or just because she knew that was what God called her to do. She was a faithful member of First African Missionary Baptist Church, Kingsland, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. E.L. Hart Sr., then under the current leadership of Rev. Dr. K.C. Davis, where she served in numerous ministries as a member of the church including, usher board, choir, youth ministry, trustee and women’s ministry, just to name a few.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her father, Willie C. Fennell; three sisters, Marjorie Fennell, Carolyn V. Moore and Cathy E. Fennell; two brothers, Alvin C. Fennell and Claude M. Fennell; one uncle, Winfred Hardy Jr.; sister-in-law, Kathleen Waye; and brother-in-law, Ralph N. Waye. 

Yvonne leaves to cherish her life’s memory, her husband of 25 years, Carl Levi Waye of Kingland; her son, Staff Sgt. Carl De’Von Waye (Nikole), who is a member in the United States Air Force, currently stationed in Las Vegas\; her loving mother, Ruth Hardy Fennell of Ahoskie; three grandchildren, King Dunaway, Quincy Dunaway and Kennedi Waye; two brothers, Joel (Hazel) Fennell of Aulander, North Carolina, and Todd (Toni) Fennell of Cofield, North Carolina; two sisters, Jackie Fennell of Maryland and Latoya Ward of Winton, North Carolina; three godchildren, R’Shad Fennell, Douglas Chappelle and Grayson Johnson.

Yvonne also leaves to cherish her life’s memory, her loving father- and mother-in-law, Carl N. (Alice) of Kinlaw; brother-in-law, Craig Waye Sr. (Lisa) of Hinesville, Georgia; sister-in-law, Brenda Fennell of Aulander; three aunts, Verlene Harrell of Jacksonville, Florida, Isabelle Beckham of Brunswick and Mamie Hill of Kinlaw; one uncle, Joe Fields Sr. of Kinlaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Graveside funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 2, at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland. A walk-thru visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, in the chapel of Sunset Funeral Home. Masks are required.
