Fred William Westerfeld III, 60, of St. Marys, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, 2020, in Yulee, Florida, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Westerfeld was born in Brooksville, Florida, to Fred William Westerfeld Jr. and the late Carolyn Cason Westerfeld and had made St. Marys his home since 1978. He worked for Gilman Paper Company for many years in maintenance and was recently working for Rayonier in Fernandina Beach, Florida, as a pipe fitter.

He was a people person, carrying on a conversation with anyone at anytime, which led him to his secondary job as a volunteer at St. Marys Seafood. He was a creative man who enjoyed woodworking and loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He also spent many years as a youth baseball coach while raising his kids.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Louis “L.D.” Dyal.

Mr. Westerfeld is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kim Dyal Westerfeld of St. Marys; two sons, Fred Westerfeld IV and wife Suzette of St. Marys and Brandon Westerfeld of St. Marys; daughter-in-law, Brittany Westerfeld of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Braelynne Westerfeld, Loreli Westerfeld and Fred William Westerfeld V, all of St. Marys; his father, Fred William Westerfeld Jr.; a sister, Kathy Chesnut and husband Stan of Taylorsville, Kentucky; a mother-in-law, Georgia Dyal of St. Marys; a sister-in-law, Krista Avera of Lake Park, Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Three Rivers Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Allison Memorial Chapel.
