A man who has been called “a dedicated worker bee for people all over Nassau County” passed away last week. Former Nassau County Commissioner Steve Kelley, 68, died Sept. 9. He served as commissioner from 2010-18, and as chairman of the Republican Party of Nassau County.

25-year-old accused of sex crime with child younger than 12

A Fernandina Beach man was arrested last week and charged with the sexual battery of a child under 12. According to the Fernandina Beach Police Department, officers were called to Baptist Medical Center Nassau on Aug. 28 about a report of an alleged sexual battery.

Right whales’ future in peril

Human-driven climate change, and the inability of governments to move quickly enough to mitigate it, is a major factor in the possible coming extinction of North Atlantic right whales. That’s according to a study that put more evidence behind what experts have observed over the past decade.
