The host Fernandina Beach Middle School football team held off a second-half rally by Yulee Middle School for an 18-14 victory Thursday night at Pirate Field.

City Commission to discuss beachfront hotels

Last sweeps event, collects five trophies

Jim Last swept the amateur division of the 61st annual Professional Putters Association championships at Putt-Putt at Main Beach Sept. 14-18, and he did it left-handed. He started playing in the Fright night doubles tournaments at the Main Beach course in 2006.

Yulee’s White Oak to become home for herd of elephants

White Oak Conservation has started construction on a new 2,500-acre home for Asian elephants, according to a news release. Most of these elephants previously traveled throughout the United States with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus until they were retired in 2016.

Celebrating an extraordinary birthday

The 100th birthday of Piney Island resident Dick Henry was Sept. 27, and Henry's neighbors on Piney Island and Little Piney Island and beyond honored him, including Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, where Henry was invited to raise the flag, and Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
