St. Marys adopts stormwater utility

The St. Marys City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to create a stormwater utility, but it will be at least next year in July before property owners will see any sort of charges. St. Marys Mayor John Morrissey said that the process for preparing the ordinance with further analysis and data mining could go beyond a year.

Sheriff breaking law to alleviate jail overcrowding

The Camden County jail’s longstanding practice of releasing inmates without paying the bail that has been set for them violates state law, which all Georgia law enforcement officers are sworn to uphold. There is no provision in Georgia state law allowing sheriffs to release an inmate on an unsecured judicial release, also known as an “own recognizance” or “OR bond.”
