St. Marys City Council appoints three to Hospital Authority

Melvin Taylor joined Ceola Foreman and Tanya Glazebrook on the St. Marys Hospital Authority board after nomination and confirmation by the City Council at its Monday meeting.
The board’s effective management in several ongoing efforts has been key in the recent past, Mayor John Morrissey said.

A newly born North Atlantic right whale suffered serious injury recently as a result of a ship strike. Born of the whale Juno, the calf was first seen by a Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute team off South Carolina on Nov. 28.

County settles jail abuse lawsuit

Camden County, Travelers Insurance and lawyers for Adam Drummond agreed to a $500,000 settlement in November, leading to a federal judge dismissing his jail abuse lawsuit shortly before Christmas.
Drummond sued Sheriff Jim Proctor and a host of corrections officers in April 2022 in the U.S.

Blue land crabs seen in St. Marys, spark concern

Folks in coastal Georgia are accustomed to plentiful blue crabs in local waters, but a different sort of blue crab is emerging as a concern.
Invasive blue land crabs are moving up north from their usual range further south, from Brazil to south Florida, including parts of south Texas.

Library displays new Cumberland exhibit
