Photo contest winners revealed

The Camden County Board of Commissioners has announced the winners of the 2022 Showcase Camden County Photo Contest. This year, 70 entries from 24 applicants were submitted in the following categories: Landscapes, Nature/Wildlife, Sunrise/Sunset and Transportation.

Dr. Patrick Godbey, laboratory director and chief of the Department of Pathology at Southeast Georgia Health System, was recently named Pathologist of the Year by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the world’s largest organization for the medical doctors who diagnose and study disease.

Sheriff’s office K-9s trained for diverse roles

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office’s police dogs are a common sight on television or at community events around the county. But people may wonder how they are trained. “I think every agency needs K-9 units,” said Sgt. Ryan Sullivan, a handler who also oversees the narcotics dogs’ training.

Georgia on her mind

For Kelsey Hollis, one of the most satisfying parts of being Miss Georgia is the chance to spread messages of inclusivity and understanding.  Crowned in June, the 22-year-old Warner Robins native visited Camden County this week.

‘Voice of the Cats,’ J.C. Outlaw, dies

J.C. Outlaw said when he graduated from Camden County High School in 1974, he wanted one day to be the voice of the Wildcats. His goal as a broadcaster realized, Outlaw called more than 400 games from 1983 to 2019 as coaches, rosters and schemes changed and evolved.

Kemp promises $1B tax cut at breakfast rally

Gov. Brian Kemp visited St. Marys on Friday morning for a breakfast rally, and he promised voters $1 billion in property tax relief. The rally – held at Seagle’s Restaurant in downtown St. Marys – drew about 40 attendees, including former State Rep.

The Camden County High School Marching Band was named the Grand Champions of the Okefenokee Sound of Gold Marching Competition on Oct. 22. The band scored a 97.0 in its historic win and collected a 7-foot-tall trophy.

Sunday morning booze on ballot for St. Marys
