Camden County Schools Board of Education extends superintendent’s contract

The Camden County Schools Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a contract extension for its homegrown superintendent. Tracolya Green, a 2001 Camden County High School graduate and Tarboro native, received a contract extension that keeps her atop the school system through June 30, 2028.

Steven Sainz and gathered residents celebrated the efforts of City Manager Lee Spell with a resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives recognizing Spell for outstanding public service.

The newest crop of Camden County Fire Rescue trainees have completed basic firefighter requirements. Tate Barber, Lucas Burnett, Ashley Conner, Tyler Ferguson, Nigel Goldberg and Cameron Johns were recognized at a graduation ceremony recently along with Kyler Clarke of Kingsland Fire Rescue.

In a U-turn, the Camden County Board of Commissioners abandoned plans for a millage rate increase — meant to help pay for major projects like a new jail and animal control facility — and instead unanimously approved millage at the rollback rate. The rate is 11.929, which is 2.

The day before the federal government shutdown, National Park Service staff at Cumberland Island National Seashore posted on Facebook that the ferry schedule was changing. “Fall is a great time to visit the Island,” according to the post.
