Kemp signature ends spaceport authority

Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation Tuesday that repeals the Camden County Spaceport Authority. House Bill 1489 was sponsored by three House members – including primary sponsor, state Rep. Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys) – and passed 160-1 in the state House on March 21.

First sea turtle nests of season hit Georgia islands

As if the sea turtles off Georgia’s coast coordinated it, three sea turtles laid the first nests of the season Sunday evening, coming ashore on Jekyll, Wassaw and Blackbeard islands. Typically, the first nests appear on Cumberland Island, but that wasn’t the case this time.

What’s left of Georgia’s wild-caught shrimp industry is hanging on in the face of massive Asian imports, and state leaders decided to memorialize the history and legacy of the industry, along with a commitment to its continued existence, by naming the white shrimp as the official state crustacean.
