Arnett

Joseph Cleveland Arnett III, lovingly known as JC, passed away on Aug. 14, 2021. He was 69 years old. JC was born in Jesup, but lived in Kingsland for the past 43 years. He was born Jan. 17, 1952, to Joseph and Nellie Arnett. JC was married to Deborah Scarborough Arnett for 48 years. He was a devoted father and grandfather who had two daughters, April (Tim) Hughes and Amy (Ronnie) Blount. He had seven grandchildren, Micah Hughes, Cooper Blount, Jonah Hughes, Isaac Blount, Elliott Rose Blount, Mason Hughes and Gracie Hughes. JC had one brother, Clifford Arnett (deceased), and two sisters, Nancy (Mike) Copeland and Sue Arnett, as well as several nieces and nephews.

JC graduated from Wayne County High School. He was most proud of being a part of the 1967 Georgia AA State Title Baseball Championship where no Wayne County team before or since has won this title. JC joined the Army National Guard as a young man and proudly served his country for six years. He received a degree in engineering and began his career as a mechanical engineer at Georgia Power Company, retiring after 32 years. 

JC enjoyed being near water, listening to music and fishing, but what he enjoyed most in this world were his grandchildren; all seven of them. JC made a point to spend as much time with each of his grandchildren as he could. They hold fond memories of their time with their Papa, including the Thursday dates that he had individually with his grandbabies. He never missed an event involving them. JC loved telling stories to his grandchildren. That was one of the things they looked forward to during their time with Papa. He also loved taking them for rides in his green truck. And when the kids saw him coming, you could hear a resounding “PAPA!!” coming from their joyful voices.

He attended and served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Kingsland. He had a heart for helping others and one of his proudest accomplishments was helping in the development of the Miracle League of Camden County. He served as a chaplain in the Truck Stop Ministry of Camden County. Each year he would also be sure to donate school supplies to David L. Rainer Elementary. He also served in the Kiwanis Club for many years. JC was willing to help anyone and everyone he could, in a moment’s notice.

I Thessalonians 4:13-18

13 And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died[a] so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.

15 We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died.[b] 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died[c] will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. 18 So encourage each other with these words.
