Boatright
Larry Wendell Boatright, 79, of Baxley passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, April 27, 2021, at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, with his devoted sweetheart, Lois Sutton, and faithful niece, Kim Crummey Lett, by his side.
Mr. Boatright was born on June 25, 1941, in Appling County to the late Doy Millard Boatright and the late Lillie Mae Cauley Watson Boatright. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose White Boatright; sisters, Valera Watson Plemmons and Hilda Boatright Johnson; and brother, Henry Harold Watson.
Larry was a member of Satilla Baptist Church. After graduating from Appling County High School, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In addition to being a lifelong farmer, he retired from Swift/Sunnyland/Smithfield as a hog buyer. Larry enjoyed the fellowship of family friends, and neighbors. He will be remembered as a humble man with an infectious smile and a kind, gentle spirit. Many children in the community would run to him like a magnet and they called him Papa.
He is survived by a son, Tracy Boatright for whom Larry and Rose provided their love, support and a wonderful opportunity in life; and loving son, Roger Herrington (Katie), of Douglas; sister, Helen Boatright Crummey (Gerald) of Kingsland; brother, Gene Boatright (Ramona) of Sylvester; grandchildren, Jared Herrington, Trent Herrington, MacKenzie “Tootsie” Herrington Knowlton (Gunnar), Emma Rose Herrington, Preston Herrington and Lincoln Herrington; and a great-grandson, Ross Wendell Knowlton; an attentive and devoted nephew, Kerry Crummey; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Daniels officiating and eulogy by Van Kanavage. Interment will follow in the White Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Stan Kanavage, Grant Kanavage, Marland Cauley, Steve Johnson, Brett Campbell and Doug Cauley.
Honorary pallbearers include Jeff Deen, James Harrell, Randall Odum, Larry Odum, Bobby Farris, Jimmy Hardin, Dane Cauley and Richard Sonny Spearman.
