James “Jimmy” Richard Carter of Woodbine passed away Friday evening, April 16, 2021, at Southeast Georgia Health System of Brunswick after an extended illness.

Born in Woodbine, his parents were James Arder and Sadie Clara Willoughby Carter. He was also preceded by a brother, George Carter.

Jimmy was retired from Cabin Bluff as a hunting guide and was of the Church of God faith. He loved fishing, hunting and was a big Georgia football fan. But most of all, he loved watching his boys play football and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Patty Durden Carter of Woodbine; three daughters and their spouses, Felicia Buie (Chris) of White Oak, Amy Herrin (Shannon) of Woodbine and Erica Drury, also of Woodbine; eight grandchildren, Cody Herrin, Garrett Herrin, Gentry Durden, Shawn Allen, Nicholas Carter, Kelly Buie, Paeton Drury and Raegan Drury; one great-grandchild, Josiah “J.B.” Brooks Kinsman; two sisters, Faye Chancey and Neil Carter, both of Woodbine; also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta.

Graveside services were held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Colesburg Cemetery in Woodbine with Rev. Chad Middleton officiating.

Pallbearers were Jamie Marr, Keith Brown, Billy Joe Chancey, Brian Strickland, Lee Barber, Zach Carter, Darrell Vanzant and Buck Vanzant. Honorary pallbearers were Jonathon Drury and Marc Ward.

Due to COVID-19, everyone was asked to follow the rules for social distancing and face masks were highly recommended at the service. Anyone who did not feel comfortable with attending the service, the family would like you to know they understand and covet your prayers.
