Margaret Viola Drummond, 70, of St. Marys gained her wings and peacefully entered into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health System – Glynn Campus.

Margaret Viola Drummond, preciously known as “Vi”, was born Nov. 6, 1951, to the late Howard and Margaret Ellerson in St. Marys. She attended the public schools of Camden County and graduated from Ralph J. Bunche High School with the Class of 1970. She entered into holy matrimony with John L. Drummond, who preceded her in death. She was a member of First African Baptist Church in St. Marys. She enjoyed singing in the choir and serving the community. Viola was employed by Union Carbide Corporation.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Thomas and Elnora Colbert, and one grandchild, Malachi Patterson.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Michael Ellerson (Kim), Shawnda Drummond and Theresa Jones (Eric); stepson, Mark Freeman; two sisters, Venus Austin and Peggy Smith (Kenneth); grandchildren, Markevious Ellerson, Devon Bailey, Ebony Thomas, Eric Jones Jr., Jaaliyah Brantley, John Jones, Milan Ellerson, Miniya Ellerson, Jordon Jones, Jimauri Brantley and Jahsyan Brantley; great-grandchildren, Adrian Thomas, Jr. (Chan), Natasha Alderman, Avery Thomas and Trenton Jackson; one sister-in-law, Ann Drummond; three brothers-in-law, Charles Green (Laura), Ruben Scott (Mary) and William Drummond; two adoptive daughters, Gretha Fleming and Angel Howard (Timmy); adoptive grandchildren, Maurice Campbell, Jemario Campbell, Brandon Butler (Julie), Brittany Fuce, Tiffany Howard and Tia Howard; special friends, Sadie Davis and Ollie Foreman; special cousins, Beverly Blackmon and Jacqueline Moses; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at First African Baptist Church, 812 Wheeler St., St. Marys. A walk-thru viewing will be held at the church from 9-10:30 a.m. the day of the service. Masks and social distancing are required.
