Hawkins

Aurelia Laverne Goolsby Hawkins, age 87 of Kingsland, passed away the morning of Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Aurelia was born Sept. 20, 1933 in Hazelhurst, Georgia, to the late Edgar Isaac Goolsby and Lula Mae Vaughn Goolsby.

Aurelia loved the Lord and served Him in her church in many different capacities. She was treasurer for many years and she even mowed the church lawn into her 80s. She loved music and was an avid harmonica player. She and Edward enjoyed traveling in their RV for many years. She was a secretary at Thiokol and Union Carbide for 25 years. At one time, she drove a school bus for the county.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Aurelia is survived by son, Morris R. Croft of Fernandina Beach, Florida; daughter, Kathy Carpenter of Kingsland; son, Ricky Hawkins of Fernandina; stepson, Jerry (Yvonne) Hawkins of Harrietts Bluff; stepson, Terry Hawkins of Kingsland; sisters, Juanita Vickers and Frances Sapp of Nahunta; and grandchildren, Alex Croft, Patrick Croft, Graham Croft of Fernandina, Sarah (Keith) Harris of Newberry Florida, Lance (Cori) Croft of Lutz, Florida, Heather Hawkins of Kingsland, Rebecca Cofield, Callahan and Chassity (Jaime) Butts of Kingsland; her great-grandchildren, Isaiah McEldowny, Elizabeth and Audrey Harris, Olivia Croft and Jayden and Jayda Butts, Cassie, Renee and Gavin Vasquez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Hawkins; sister, Wilma Selph; brothers, Donald, Watson, Neil and Roy Goolsby; and grandchildren, Emily Lewis, Terri Lynn Carpenter and Wayne Hawkins. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday May 15, at Friendship Baptist Church in Kingsland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in Aurelia’s name be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles or to the charity of your choice.
