Dennis Lee Hopkins, 70, of Kingsland departed this earthly life in the late evening hours on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick.

Dennis Lee Hopkins was born on Nov. 2, 1951, in Kingsland, where he was a longtime employee with the City of Kingsland, where he retired.

He is the son of the late Willie and Beatrice Hopkins. He was the fifth child of six siblings. He was preceded in death by his nephew, John Hubbard.

As a brother of 70 years, he loved each and every one of his siblings with true love and devotion. As an uncle, great uncle and great-great uncle, his love was steadfast. He loved us all unconditionally. Dennis was well known in the community. His yard on Lee Street was the gathering place for many friends and strangers.

Dennis is survived by his siblings, Sara (Louis-deceased) Joseph, Kingsland, Willie (Nancy) Hopkins, Jacksonville, Florida, Alexander (Mazie-deceased) Hopkins, Kingsland, Ella (Harry-deceased) Waye, Kingsland, Nadine Hopkins, Kingsland, James (Linda) Hopkins, Yulee, Florida, and Winifred (John) Glover, Woodbine (Kinlaw); a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure the memories of our brother, uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle, Dennis Lee, a.k.a. “Red.” He also leaves behind special friends, Opie, Marion Babe Baker, Ezell Dawson, Derrick Dawson, Derrick Albertie, Travis King, Marcus Lucas, Katrina Gibbs and many more who will definitely miss him. One special friend who preceded him in death, Clarence Parish.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at Rising Daughter Cemetery, 29570 U.S. Highway 17, Waverly. A public walk-thru viewing will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home, 401 N. Lee St., Kingsland. Mask and social distancing are required.
