Walker
Sarah Evelyn Raysor-Walker, the first of 11 children, was born in Woodbine on March 27, 1934. She was the daughter of the late George W. Raysor and Nettie Lee Dallas Raysor.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her savior. She was baptized in what was formerly known as First Baptist Church by Rev. Anderson, now known as First Missionary Baptist Church.
She also sang in the youth choir. While at First Baptist, she and some friends, Richard Cook, Dessie Lee Horn and Maggie Drummer organized a group called the “Melodians.” They sang gospel songs and that group sure could sing!
She attended Peck High School and graduated in 1952. After graduation, she relocated to New York City. There she attended business school. Years later, she married a young man named Louis Walker, a childhood friend who she knew while living in Florida. Louis and Sarah Walker were joined in holy matrimony on April 29, 1956. From this union, there were no children. At the time they were married, Louis was a staff sergeant and was stationed in California. She worked at the California base until Louis became stationed in New Jersey.
Sarah began to work at Princeton Hospital, located in Princeton, New Jersey, as a medical office manager where she worked until retirement. After she retired, she and Louis moved to Woodbine. Sarah became a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C.D. Roberts. While there, she became a deaconess and taught Sunday school.
After the death of her husband, she relocated to Fernandina Beach, Florida. She joined the church of her childhood, now First Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Darien K. Bolden. She was a devoted FMBC member until her illness.
Her passing on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Baptist Heart Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, is a deep and personal loss to her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories her four sisters and five brothers: Geneva (John) Terry of Fernandina Beach, Judith Raysor of Hermiston, Oregon, Michelle (Henry) Passmore of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Anita (Jerry) Timmons of Fernandina Beach, James (Jacqueline) Raysor of East Greenbush, New York, Robert (Lydia) Raysor of Trenton, New Jersey, George (Thelma) Raysor, Herman (Diane) Raysor and Paul (Gwendolyn) Raysor, all of Fernandina Beach.
She also leaves to cherish her memories, her stepdaughter, Annette (Charlie) Mainor; 25 nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Robert “Robbie” Raysor Jr.; and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends.
