School Board discusses sale of Callahan fairgrounds land

The Nassau County School Board is considering partnering with the Northeast Florida Fair Association on a plan to improve the Callahan property where the fair is held. That partnership might include the School Board selling the property to the NFFA.  Schools Superintendent Dr.

CRC continues survey work

The Charter Review Committee of the city of Fernandina Beach met Monday to discuss a survey meant to gain insight into how city employees interact with their supervisors, charter officers, and city commissioners. The goal is to more clearly define the roles and responsibilities of each.

In the first month of each year, the Fernandina Beach City Commission has a Visioning Workshop with city staff to look at the goals and objective for the upcoming fiscal year and how best to work toward those goals. This year’s was held Jan. 28.

City offers loans for rehab of historic houses

The city of Fernandina Beach recognizes the importance of the structures that contribute to the city’s historic character, and ultimately the “sense of place” for which Fernandina Beach is famous, according to a news release.

Game rooms must close within 60 days

The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an ordinance banning simulated gambling devices and simulated gambling establishments as a public nuisance on Monday. All gaming arcades in Nassau County must close within 60 days.

Plan for trees cut at Amelia Bluff goes to city manager

Amelia Bluff LLC will have to pay thousands of dollars and replace several trees as part of a plan to mitigate damages related to protected trees it removed in preparation to build the subdivision.
