County updates coronavirus plans; schools to remain closed until April 15

A special meeting of the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners was held late Monday afternoon to address more public and private closures in response to the coronavirus pandemic and to streamline the county’s “messaging” strategy.

Business damage survey, loan program activated

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has activated the Business Damage Assessment Survey to assess the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and COVID-19, the disease it causes, on Florida’s local business operations, according to the state Department of Economic Opportunity.

Five Warriors commit to college football

West Nassau High School celebrated Feb. 26 as five athletes signed letters of intent to play football on the collegiate level. Bryce Morris, Bryson Williams, Elijah Canode, Zorian Stanton and Chaz Hirschman participated in the ceremony.  The Record spoke with each athlete during the event.

Council approves lot divide

The Hilliard Town Council approved a commercial and residential lot split between Orange Street and U.S. 1 March 9. The council voted 3-0 to approve the request by Patricia J. Sullivan and Wayne Bishop. The approval comes at the recommendation of the Hilliard Planning and Zoning Board.

City’s conservation fund grows, but is it enough?

The waterfront, funding for land conservation, and the marina were all topics at the Tuesday, March 3, meeting of the Fernandina Beach City Commission, and thousands of dollars were donated for land conservation that will be matched in accordance with an agreement with an anonymous donor.
