ElderSource opens senior help line

Seniors, disabled adults and their caregivers can get free, live help from trained customer service specialists and information about local programs and services through ElderSource’s HelpLine. The help line is available Mondays through Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 888-242-4464.

Depot park project begins

Plans for Callahan’s Depot Park are moving forward.  The town’s public works employees recently installed water and sewer lines and filled in ditches near Dixie Avenue. The site is adjacent to the historic Callahan Train Depot.

Donated masks help protect workers

A stitch in time yielded 180 face masks for grocery store employees.  Callahan First Baptist Church volunteers began sewing the masks recently and donated them to Winn Dixie employees in Callahan and Hilliard in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The COVID-19 numbers for Nassau County

Thursday, April 9: Two more cases were added at 6 p.m.: “FDOH Nassau has received two new cases with positive COVID-19 testing in Nassau residents.  The first case is a 68 year-old male with travel-related exposure and with no known contact to a confirmed case.

Those laid off can get help finding new health insurance

The Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida is ready to assist those who have been laid off due to business decisions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic, according to a news release.

How Baptist Nassau is dealing with coronavirus

Amelia Island has one hospital, Baptist Medical Center Nassau, to serve its residents. During normal times, it is sufficient, but these are not normal times as a worldwide pandemic threatens to overwhelm some medical facilities, their personnel, and their supply of personal protective equipment.
