Nassau County students will continue with distance learning through the end of the 2019-20 school year. Gov. Ron DeSantis made the announcement Saturday.  The academic year was scheduled to end May 22.

Proposed changes move closer to voter referendum

The Callahan Town Council plans to add a referendum to the ballot so that citizens can choose how key roles will function. Ordinance No. 2020-O06 was unanimously approved on first reading Monday via a telephone conference.

The COVID-19 numbers for Nassau County

Friday, April 17: The official case count is 39 as of this morning, according to a post on Facebook from the Nassau County Sheriff's Office: "(Florida Department of Health) Nassau reports no new reports of COVID-19 positive labs in Nassau residents.

In age of coronavirus, Farm Share event more successful than ever

Last Saturday morning’s food distribution at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center in Fernandina Beach far exceeded organizers’ expectations. “The goal was at least 500 families, and we ended up serving 1,200 families,” said Granardo Felix, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Loans to Nassau businesses discussed by BOCC

County commissioners discussed the financial impact the coronavirus crisis is having on Nassau County residents at their Wednesday meeting. The meeting was again held remotely through conferencing software due to the social distancing guidelines resulting from the pandemic.

Waiting on test results causes its own stress

Phil Scanlan pays attention to his health. Although Scanlan has stage 4 colon cancer, the disease is in remission, and he leads a more active lifestyle at 76 than most healthy people half his age.

BOCC could buy riverside land

The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners has voted unanimously to enter into a nonbinding purchase and sales agreement for the purchase of approximately 36 acres of land in Hilliard to be used for recreation at a cost of $875,000.

Water and sewer line plan takes shape

Callahan town officials prepare to set a timetable for future expansion along U.S. 301.  In January 2019, the Callahan Town Council authorized Mayor Marty Fontes to sign a contract with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity to receive a $5 million grant.
